  • 100 KM Route
    100km Route

The 100km for 2018 follows the now classic route from previous versions of the Donal Crowley Memorial.

The route is designed for experienced to intermediate cyclists who have put some time in the saddle over the winter months and also for those cyclists who fancy a challenge.

The route leads us west out of Blarney towards Tower for approximately 2km before turning right onto the Shournaugh Line. We continue the gentle rise through this wooded area where you will hear the sound of the river beside you and experience the exhilaration of riding within a bunch. Be sure to soak up as much of the atmosphere as possible as your first challenge will come upon you at approx. 16km.

Turning left at Downey’s Bridge, you will head upwards towards Donoughmore. Rising out of your saddle, the pain will be temporary as this ‘sprinters hill’ lasts just 500metres. Recovery can be found on the downhill to Crean’s Cross but care must be observed as you will be taking a sharp right turn onto the R579 where you will then commence your gentle ascent to Nadd and overlooked by the Eagles Nest hill and the wind turbines of Lyre.

Passing through Nadd village, you will be faced with a decision. At the fork you can turn left where you will be greeted with a climb toward Lyre or right for the solace of a flat road to Banteer. **Please note the road to Banteer will not be marshalled but is encouraged for those cyclists who are feeling the effects of a long climb to Nadd.**

For those who keep to the official course, after the climb to Lyre you will be rewarded with a descent to our next significant turn. The sharp right hand turn at Kilcorney requires care. Continuing to Banteer, you will cross the rail lines and go straight at the crossroads. Whilst this crossroads will be marshalled, please abide the rules of the road.

Lombardstown, Dromahane, Bweeng, you are now passing through villages at your ease as you can smell the hot food awaiting your arrival back in Blarney.

You’ve done it, you have completed the Donal Crowley Memorial 100km route.

    40 KM Route
    BCC 2016 Map

The 40km for 2018 follows the same welcoming route from previous versions of the Donal Crowley Memorial.

The route is designed for all levels of cyclist.

Following the same route as the 100km as far as Downey’s Bridge, you will be treated to the same sights and sounds as you warm up for a great days cycling.

Where the 100km turn left for their first challenge of the day, you will continue straight through the junction. Although this will be marshalled, please exercise caution.

Your heart rate will rise at 17km in as you climb beyond Downey’s Transport towards Bweeng which marks the halfway point. You will turn right at the main junction in Bweeng and head past the Church where some of you may pray for a tailwind home.

The road now is undulating but more downhill than up. At approx. 30km, you will keep right at the fork which would bring you to Grenagh and start enjoying the final 10km back to Blarney via the Waterloo road.

You have conquered the 40km Donal Crowley. Be very proud of yourself. We look forward to welcoming you back to Blarney.
